RBA Cash Rate
The benchmark shaping every Australian variable home loan rate.
What is RBA Cash Rate?
The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) cash rate is the interest rate charged on overnight loans between banks. It's the benchmark that influences every Australian home loan rate. The RBA Board reviews it monthly (except January).
Why it matters for you
When the RBA moves the cash rate, lenders typically pass some or all of the change to variable rates within weeks. The amount passed through varies — which is why a broker's role is to negotiate promptly when cuts happen. Fixed rates don't move with the cash rate during the fixed period.
