Honeymoon Rate

A low intro rate that reverts higher. Check the revert carefully.

What is Honeymoon Rate?

A honeymoon rate (also called an introductory rate) is a discounted rate offered for an initial period — usually 1–2 years — before reverting to the lender's standard variable rate.

Why it matters for you

Honeymoon rates look attractive but often revert to above-market rates. Always check what you'll be paying at year 3 and 4. A slightly higher rate from day one with no revert trap is usually better value over the life of the loan.
