Easement
A registered right for others to use part of your land.
What is Easement?
An easement is a legal right registered on a property title allowing someone else (utility company, neighbour, council) to use part of the land for a specific purpose — drainage, access, sewer lines, overhead power.
Why it matters for you
Easements restrict what you can build on your land. A drainage easement across the back garden means you can't extend, add a pool or plant large trees there. Always have your conveyancer identify easements during contract review.
